WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in 1922 and was brought to the west by Hawayo Takata in 1937. Reiki is a form of alternative medicine called energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient (client) in order to encourage emotional or physical healing. The awareness that an unseen energy flows through all living things and directly affects the quality of a person’s health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. Science refers to it as biofield energy.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A REIKI SESSION:
You will complete a confidential client history form that outlines the areas in your body and life that you would like the session to focus on. This will also help the practitioner monitor your progress from session to session. Once you have asked any questions you have, you will lie fully clothed on a therapy table and relax. The practitioner will place their hands above or lightly touching your body over various parts in a sequential method. Reiki energy flows from the practitioner’s hands to the individual’s body and energy field. At the end of the session, you can discuss any questions you may have with the practitioner. A full session usually lasts between 45 minutes to an hour.
